AMALGAMA

FEM CHOIR

If you’ve made it this far, it’s because we believe this project speaks to you.

Amalgama is a new women’s choir focused on exploring and sharing the musical legacy and creative power of women. We want to revisit and discover works by female composers and writers from different cultures, times, and backgrounds, in order to bring their messages to light—often overlooked or silenced: songs of struggle and tenderness, resistance and beauty, love and loss, memory and transformation. We want to sing so that, through our united voices, these messages resonate as far as possible.

Our goal

Messages reach deeper when they’re well conveyed. This is an opportunity to carry them as far as we wish. That’s why our goal is to sing more, and sing better: to work on each of our voices, to enjoy them together while discovering new repertoire, and to share them on every stage the local choral scene offers us.

Repertoire

We will sing music from around the world in different languages: classical and contemporary women composers, traditional songs arranged by women, and original works by female creators.

Rehearsals and Activities

  • Weekly rehearsal in Barcelona
  • Up to 4 outdoor “a cappella” performances a year on special dates
  • One yearly singing trip in nature
  • End-of-season concert
  • And every concert opportunity we can find!

More than a choir

Creating a choir means creating a community, and we want these to be the pillars of ours:

  • Visibility for women creators
  • Love for Music, our common language, our connection
  • Companionship a space of respect, sensitivity, and collaboration. We value our diverse backgrounds as shared richness.
  • Commitment. Each rehearsal is a chance to grow and contribute our voice to the group

We want to build a choir, and also a space for musical and personal growth—where each person can discover and strengthen their own voice while experiencing the magic of collective creation.

Musical Direction

The choir will be led by Joana Campo Mestre: musician, singer, vocal coach, and experienced choral director. Her approach combines technical training with musical expressiveness, fostering a warm, engaging, and artistically stimulating environment.
